When I was pregnant with our daughter Nina, I found out she has Down Syndrome.
The day I found was the hardest day of my life. I cried so hard and it was very painful. So much so that I looking back, I don’t fully remember how I handled it.
I just cried so hard. I cried as if it was the end of the world. I cried because I was scared. I didn’t know anything about Down Syndrome at the time and this fear of not knowing frightened me more than anything.
Is this baby going to talk? Is the baby going to even walk or have any health issues?
I had no idea.
I carried my pregnancy with that fear and it was so painful that I didn't enjoy the pregnancy.
It was just so hard that I really felt that I wanted to disappear and my life was over….
And then, she came.
The moment she arrived, these fears, these feelings of wanting to disappear vanished.
It was not only her birth but my own re-birth into motherhood. I no longer grieved for the life I thought I had lost, I was REJOICING in what I had created!
Nina, she is so amazing. She is so happy, so full of life energy, so FUNNY!
And she knows exactly who she is. She is my daily inspiration and my constant reminder of the magic of life.
My journey into motherhood taught me that life is not all about setting a goal and trying to achieve the goal.
Life is all about what we have right now at this moment.
Now when I apply that to my daily life and if I start taking everything for granted, I always remind myself, “Wait a minute. Am I missing something right now?” My life is so full now, and fear no longer consumes me. I am in control of the bounty that I have and the happiness I feel.
I am coming into my power as a woman, as a human on this Earth, just as Nina came into this world fearless, happy and unapologetically true to who she is.
I hope you are too are inspired by the worst day of my life, please watch to learn more.
