Hey Hockey Player!
In this video, I'm going over exactly what you should do after your game or workout to maximize recovery.
It all comes down to understanding the science behind what happens during training and how we can set the stage for a physiology that supports recovery immediately after training.
And we are looking for a Sympathetic state and a Parasympathetic state.
There are two states of the nervous system and our physiology that determines what's going on in our mind and body - and what type of reacting that is going to cause.
Sympathetic State= Fight or Flight
Parasympathetic State= Rest and Digest
During training, or a hockey game or workout, you are going to have an elevated heart rate, breathing, blood flow to working muscle tissues, fatigue produces by-products, and of course, elevated psychological arousal.
Both our body and mind are heightened in this elevated state of being in a sympathetic state.
So...
If all that is happening during high intense activity - you need to design a cool down that supports you into a state of rest and digest (parasympathetic.)
--
So when it comes to creating a hockey specific cool down, you need to create one that is customized for you.
Hockey Cool Down Steps:
5:10 - Technical
7:13 - Mobility
8:27 - Deep Breathing
There's your hockey specific cool down - be sure to customize it to you? What techniques do you need to work on? What mobility issues do you currently have? And always do deep breathing.
